Going really fast, to no where. — A Poem
Everyday, we see
People hurrying about to get to work
To make a living for their children
To give them a good life
But at the same time
With good food, they inject something poisonous
This urge to treat life like a race
And then we see those poor children
Growing up to be miserable individuals
Studying while eating
Cramming it all in
Ignoring the beauty of science and art
They lose their health so they can top the class
How can they slow down
When not only they have to compete with their friends
But also with their cousins, because
To make their existence worth it
They have to get that scholarship
Not only do they have to run fast
They also have to be stupid enough
To stop others from getting far
They eventually become a sadist
Because for others, they are constantly wishing ill
Now adulthood has come
Time to get a job
They have to be the first one to get there
And also earn much
And show it off, to their uncles and aunts
So they can get a good proposal
Now it’s time to get married, they should ensure
Their spouse is the best in appearance
And is really rich
Because, “Didn’t you see your cousin,
who married that millionaire?”
Okay, now time to have kids
They should make sure that they grow up
To be even more anxious than they are
Strip the essence of life away
Push them into a rat race
Turn this miraculous life into hell
Make them live a boring life
Because if they don’t
What will people say?
Just stop,
Slow down.
Stop rushing to nowhere
Stop and think,
and begin to live
